How many people read this journal on a daily basis, do you suppose? My guess is five: Kirby, Ivee, Mom, Dad, and a mischievously mysterious local resident (from Killdeer or Dunn Center, ND). Unconfirmed others may include: Jawcey, Trisha, Giles, Nervous, Blandow, Goose, Frosty J., Cousin Jenny, Rhein, Jack N., and Lorax. Then I suppose there are dozens of others who stumble upon it and, perhaps, read an entry or two.

Who's to know?

Maybe there's an FBI employee paid to keep track of my anarchist tendencies. Many of my friends never read it. I'd bet that only a select few (friends or otherwise) find my ramblings worthy of a regular gander.

The same goes for my songs. Musicians like Ani DiFranco or Conor Oberst or Chan Marshall or Aesop Rock demand huge followings. I demand 11 hardcore Sandfans. Eleven Sandfriends.

Ok, possibly 22. Twenty-two Seinfields. Sandsteins. Feingolds. Something Jewish: the 12 tribes of Israel plus the sacred Hebrew numbers 7 & 3. The One God plus the Ten Comandments times two for the lovely Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara (not Jewish, but sexy nevertheless). These numbers control me: 11 & 22. I live off of Highway 22. There are 11 letters in my first name, and 22 in my stage name. I tell you this trivia not to prove any points, but to hint at something less interesting: compulsive numerical psychosis.

Back to you. Why do you find this journal worthy of a regular scan? I expect at least two comments by Friday. Include your lucky number.

well sandy, it's funny you ask about this. earlier today, at the library, i read the post about you and the pond and the dog and cracked up enough (out loud in the silence) to comment on it. which i did.
BUT 10 hours later (now)...i looked back to see others' comments and mine was no longer there. replaced by a "this comment has been removed" perhaps. i wonder what kind've secrets i might've leaked in my post that warranted removal?
or maybe i didn't actually complete the technicalities of posting.

either way, i'm a regular.
don't always comment.
i like to simply see what you're up to.
i like to see how you find beauty and poetry in a new lifestyle.
i like to see how others respond to your musings.
i like to hear about North Dakota, a state that nobody's ever been too (seriously, it's the least visited state, and you can't ever just drive through it...as I-90 is the ribbon that connects the coasts, not 94).

and i never make phone calls or emails out of the blue. and i used to do my best writing (and sharing) when i would write mass emails to everyone i know. i gave that up, but now provide a fun free daily 800# for people to call.

you are socially awesome, but are maybe a hermit in your current geographical sitch...so it feels like the interweb we weave is the conversation.

my lucky # is 317. or 3:17 especially.
i am also partial to 12:34 and 2:30 as times (only for their cleverness).
oh, and my favorite time is "Ten-to".
ten to what, you ask?
ten to yer own goddam bizness!

PS--you posted at 11:11.
but i think you may've been trying.

My lucky number is 11 or 11:11, as for addtional number sequences and their enlightened meanings my numerically blessed friend... here is a list by Doreen Virtues

Number
Sequences

Your angels often communicate messages to you by showing you sequences of numbers. They do this in two ways. First, they subtly whisper in your ear so you’ll look up in time to notice the clock’s time or a phone number on a billboard. The angels hope you’ll be aware that you’re seeing this same number sequence repeatedly. For instance, you may frequently see the number sequence 111, and it seems every time you look at a clock the time reads 1:11 or 11:11.

The second way in which angels show you meaningful number sequences is by physically arranging for, say, a car to drive in front of you that has a specific license plate number they want you to see. Those who are aware of this phenomenon become adept at reading the meaning of various license plates. In this way, the angels will actually give you detailed messages. Here are the basic meanings of various number sequences. However, your own angels will tell you if your situation holds a different meaning for you. Ask your angels, “What are you trying to tell me?” and they’ll happily give you additional information to help decode their numeric meanings.

111 — Monitor your thoughts carefully, and be sure to only think about what you want, not what you don’t want. This sequence is a sign that there is a gate of opportunity opening up, and your thoughts are manifesting into form at record speeds. The 111 is like the bright light of a flash bulb. It means the universe has just taken a snapshot of your thoughts and is manifesting them into form. Are you pleased with what thoughts the universe has captured? If not, correct your thoughts (ask your angels to help you with this if you have difficulty controlling or monitoring your thoughts).

222 — Our newly planted ideas are beginning to grow into reality. Keep watering and nurturing them, and soon they will push through the soil so you can see evidence of your manifestation. In other words, don’t quit five minutes before the miracle. Your manifestation is soon going to be evident to you, so keep up the good work! Keep holding positive thoughts, keep affirming, and continue visualizing.

333 — The Ascended Masters are near you, desiring you to know that you have their help, love, and companionship. Call upon the Ascended Masters often, especially when you see the number 3 patterns around you. Some of the more famous Ascended Masters include: Jesus, Moses, Mary, Quan Yin, and Yogananda.

444 — The angels are surrounding you now, reassuring you of their love and help. Don’t worry because the angels’ help is nearby.

555 — Buckle your seatbelts. A major life change is upon you. This change should not be viewed as being "positive" or "negative," since all change is but a natural part of life’s flow. Perhaps this change is an answer to your prayers, so continue seeing and feeling yourself being at peace.

666 — Your thoughts are out of balance right now, focused too much on the material world. This number sequence asks you to balance your thoughts between heaven and earth. Like the famous "Sermon on the Mount," the angels ask you to focus on spirit and service, and know your material and emotional needs will automatically be met as a result.

777 — The angels applaud you…congratulations, you’re on a roll! Keep up the good work and know your wish is coming true. This is an extremely positive sign and means you should also expect more miracles to occur.

888 — A phase of your life is about to end, and this is a sign to give you forewarning to prepare. This number sequence may mean you are winding up an emotional career, or relationship phase. It also means there is light at the end of the tunnel. In addition, it means, “The crops are ripe. Don’t wait to pick and enjoy them.” In other words, don’t procrastinate making your move or enjoying fruits of your labor.

999 — Completion. This is the end of a big phase in your personal or global life. Also, it is a message to lightworkers involved in Earth healing and means, "Get to work because Mother Earth needs you right now."

000 — A reminder you are one with God, and to feel the presence of your Creator’s love within you. Also, it is a sign that a situation has gone full circle.

i'm not sure if i find it all that worthy... i just really don't have a life- so yours in comparison seems grand. ;-) i assumed you had at least dozens of regular readers... wow, what a loser am i. okay, this is a wake up call... i need to start weaning myself from your entries.... starting now: we'll see how long this lasts.
ivee (*

one other thing, i enjoy your posts much more now that you're in ND... there seems to be more substance in your selfreflection... not that it was empty before--- just a little tinnier. i'm very interested to hear the songs born from this "return to your roots".

i don't believe in luck- thus, no lucky number.

okay... starting... NOW.

Wow- killer comments! I will comment more when I have time, but wanted Dr. 317 to know that I didn't erase your comment, at least I don't think I did. I erased mine because I couldn't get my first comment to come through and thus repeated my first comment, but then both comments posted, and so I deleted the second one. What was your comment? Try again.

ivee- how am i s'posed to reach 11 readers if you bail out? being a sandfriend does not necessarily make you a loser. c'mon, i'll read your blog, too (i know you have one).

Dear Chris,

I do read your journal daily. I have a certain set of new's sites that I read daily. They include: The RC quote of the day, an Iranian news website, the Boston Globe online, Le Monde online, a few lefty sites and your journal.

Something funny: when I was in Olympia last week I wass swimming in a pond (forget the name) with David. Actually we were in the dead center of the pond on a raft when a man swam buy and yelled "hey, did you hear Sandman bought a house?" Although your fame has certainly spread here in Boston (people are always asking me when you're coming back) it was nice to be in Olympia, where senator Sand is a household name. Anyway, I forget that guy's name (David said he lived around that pond) but he reads your journal daily too.

with love,
Nima

Chris,

I do read this almost daily. My memories, past and present, of rugged western North Dakota are vivid daily through your words.

I am sorry to hear of Uncle Chris. I remember my son playing Cribbage with him last summer. Keep writing and say hello to all for me - your Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa. I do plan on coming out sometime in October.

Your (3rd??) cousin

okay, i lasted all of 3 hours... my will is strong but my flesh is so weak. ha. i think my husband reads your posts if not every day, a few times a week. that's one step closer to the ambitious number 11.

what about the girl (i'm assuming it's a girl but i guess it could be a guy) who proclaims her love for you once a week or so... who is that? she's a regular... see. you're selling yourself short.

Sandman,

I start every Monday - Friday morning reading your jounal. I can't put a finger on why, but I do. I guess I just find them entertaining. I also like hearing about your life. I also like hearing about Grandma & Grandpa, and North Dakota, and all that. I can visualize every place you talk about, and that brings me back to when we were younger, riding horses all summer.

As for my favorite number...I guess 199 duz fine.

Well I read your journal every business day. Have been oh geez for at least the past 6 months. Well maybe not every business day. Like if I take the day off work or am really busy, I might not read it. But pretty much I am faithful to you. The end

My name is Amber and I live in Bismarck and saw you the last couple of times you played a show here. (its been to long!) My lucky number is 17 because that is how old I was when my life changed forever and saved me from myself.

Chris Sand said...

That was fun! Thanks everybody for enlightening my world.

Amber, you should bring your friends out to Dunn County and I'll give you all a free show some weekend.

I read your journal about every-other-day, because it makes me homesick in the best possible way.

and I want to get your two new cd's the second they're ready.

I started reading your journal when Teresa visited. It was about the only way to keep up with what she was doing! I've been hooked ever since, partly because it reminds me of the incredible humanity of a place that values people so much. I love the stories you tell and the photos give life to concepts that aren't readily apparent in the big city where I live. Your thoughts and ideas give me hope for what is most important--our relationships and interactions with others.

My "lucky" number is 3 or derivative: 6/9/12, etc. Who knows why, it just seems to fit me and offers a certain sense of order when choosing in a not-so-ordered world.

i read your journal every day (unless i am kept away from my computer). i have one of those shortcut button things to it on my internet browser. i really started in earnest during a very lonely hard time of my life. you keep me good company. you are reliable and solid. i read it because you are a great writer and poet and philosopher. also, now a great photographer. i think of everyone's life as a kind of poem, and i think your journal lets me into the poem of your life a bit. i also have a secret crush on you.

oh, and i don't really have a lucky number. lately i have been relying on my father's birthdate 030635. that is about the only number i feel like i have a relationship too. but now maybe i will pay more attention to number signs from the angels.

Although out of practice for the past couple months, I've also been a voracious Sandmanfan, and check on you just about every day - if not multiple times a day. I derive great enjoyment from your musings and am grateful for this nifty window into your inspiring life....

Chris Sand said...

Thanks one and all! (This doesn't mean you have to stop, tho', of course.)

I read your blog fairly regularily as well. Mostly to figure out if your life is for real, as your daily escapades seem like something out of a movie. I can't believe you paid $1000 for a HOUSE!
I live on the West Coast of Canada, so it's very different here. Thanks for keeping entertained (and enlightened).

My life is beyond real. It's surreal.

HA! Another regular reader-usually daily, although I'm late to comment as I was recently offline for several days helping Red Light Ruby have her baby. Roxy Sugarplum September Bourne. Hooray!

Although I began reading your journal for ego-centric reasons (what did he think of us???), I became a regular reader because you have a way of discerning unique and odd details in a seemingly normal setting or situation. Even moving back to a tiny hamlet in a primarily unpopulated prarie provides entries that are fraught with interesting characters, beautiful scenery, quaint anecdotes, and strange observances. I know that most of the LDGS check in pretty regularly- the Reverend Laguna Gold and Peaches A La Mode are as addicted as I am. We wait with bated breast---er, breath. xxx, Chickadee

Chris Sand said...

Wow, 22 comments! What's most surprising is that nobody refuted my claim that the Bush twins are sexy.

I applaud you-- for to get hung up on that detail would have been shallow.

(But truth be told, I wasn't being completely sincere ...it's just that I so badly want to like Dubya for something. I will, thus, appreciate his offspring.)

p.s. thanks Chickadee for being #22.

My comment is late because I read your blog only, oh, once a month or so. But I definitely should count becaues I always go all the way back to whatever I've last read.

This is the first time I've commented, so while I'm at it, I'll proclaim my undying lust for you.

As for whether you're selling yourself short, well, I think you might have simply been fishing for compliments.
