Margi and I didn't find the adolescent eagle we were looking for. We did see the eagle's parents soaring overhead, though. I had fun tromping through the badlands.

When I got home, I drove to Watership Down and tore out the carpet in the front room. Underneath it is this amazing old linoleum. Under the linoleum is a hardwood floor.

so, you're getting rid of the linoleum, refinishing the hardwood?

i'd like to keep the linoleum, i think, for now.

when you do decide to take it to the base floor... i would skip refinishing... and go for sanding and painting. red or black are good options. i helped a friend remodel a home and this is what we chose. it looked phenomenal! she even freehanded a pattern in one room to look like an ornate rug (victorian technique).
